3D Scanning & 3D Printing

Hi! I’m Victoria, a visual artist and 3D designer based in Zurich. For over nine years, I’ve been teaching digital creative tools at universities and Art & Technology Labs, combining artistic research, technical production, and material experimentation.

In this Dynamo course, we’ll explore the creative possibilities of 3D scanning and 3D printing, learning how to bring real-world objects, bodies, and environments into the digital space — and then transform them back into physical objects.

We’ll begin with the basics of 3D scanning: how to capture an object or surface, how scanning technology works, and how to create a digital 3D model from physical reality. You’ll learn how to clean, edit, and prepare your scans so they can be used for further digital design, visualization, animation, or fabrication.

We’ll then explore the fundamentals of 3D printing, from preparing a digital model to slicing and exporting the file for printing. You’ll learn how to understand the basic settings of a slicer, choose appropriate materials, and consider the structural aspects of a piece so that your digital object can successfully become a physical one.

Throughout the course, we’ll look at how these tools can be useful for artistic projects, prototyping, object design, digital archives, sculpture, installation, character creation, and experimentation with materials and forms. The idea is not simply to learn how to scan or print, but to understand how these technologies can become creative tools in your own practice.

You’re also welcome to bring a personal project, object, or idea you’d like to explore during the course. We can use the scanning and printing workflow to develop it from the physical into the digital — or from the digital back into the physical.

My approach combines creativity, conceptual thinking, and technical rigor. Whether you’re curious about documenting objects, transforming physical forms, creating sculptures, developing prototypes, or simply discovering what happens when the digital and physical worlds meet, this course is an introduction to the possibilities of 3D scanning and 3D printing.
